Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies

Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies is a prestigious project of Cannanore District Muslim Educational Association (C.D.M.E.A) which also runs Sir Syed College, Keyi Sahib Training College, Sir Syed Higher Secondary School and Kurumathur South U.P. School. It is named after Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to perpetuate the memory of the pioneer of Muslim Educational Movement in India. The Institute is purely secular, cosmopolitan and co-educational. The Institute celebrates its twenty first year of unmatched excellence in shaping careers and building lives. Sir Syed Institute for Technical Studies is an unaided self-financing College affiliated to Kannur University.

It started functioning in October 2002 and is in continuous pursuit of excellence and therefore provides quality education. It continues to make substantial progress every year, by way of its exemplary functioning. The Institute offers 3 PG courses in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and 13 UG courses in B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc. Biotechnology, B.Sc. Psychology, B.Sc. Food Technology, B.Com Computer Application, B.Com Finance, B.Com Marketing, B. Com Co-operation, B.B.A, B.A English and B.A Economics. It proposes on adding many more courses in future academic years for the growth and betterment of the students and society. Admission to all the courses is subjected to merit and management following all the norms of reservations laid down by the Government. The college also offers Central Sector Scholarship and Post Metric Scholarship for Minorities. The Institute possesses outstanding infrastructure and state of the art facilities. It also holds a computerized reference library with a well updated bibliotheca and a well-resourced IT Department. The Institute has well-equipped and laboratories for the departments of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Psychology that can easily keep pace with any of the modern research laboratories. Broadband access within the Institute is smooth and uninterrupted. The Institute also possesses a well-resourced seminar hall with video conferencing facility to conduct International and National Seminars and Webinars. In addition, the campus features a miniauditorium, an audiovisual theatre for academic presentations and interactive learning, open stage, canteen, playground and ICT enabled smart classrooms with interactive boards for PG students and LCD projectors for UG programmes. The Institute owns adequate transportation system facilitating students in their conveyance. The Institute provides individual hostel accommodations for both boys and girls.

The ladies’ hostel is in the college premises and therefore ensures a safe and secured environment for the girl students. As a requirement of the institution, separate prayer halls have been provided for Gents and Ladies. The college has a strength of about 1757 students, 73 teaching staffs and 21 ministerial staff. Our faculty includes Ph.D holders and several NET qualified members. Orientation programmes are regularly attended by our teachers to empower with new norms and be updated with the educational system. We are proud to have several International publications to our credit and have two novel gene sequences deposited in the NCBI. We have an extensive library with 5148 books and 32 journals. The Institute regularly conducts faculty development programmes to help teachers stay updated with the current educational trends.

Our students have excelled in their fields of study and have various fellowships to their credit. Our students have been awarded the Chief Minister's Prathibha Puraskaram 2026 scholarship of Rs 1 lakh in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements. In addition, they continue to secure prestigious fellowships such as CSIR, DBT, INSPIRE, and KSCSTE every year, proving their academic excellence every year. We also have an alumnus who hold several Ph.D degrees and CSIR/ICAR/UGC NET qualifiers. The students are provided ample opportunities for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities through NSS,NCC and different clubs like Biodiversity club, Music club (SA RE GA MA),Entrepreneurship Development club, Language club, Electoral Literacy club, YIP club, Media club, Arts and Cultural forum, Biochemistry club (Team-Bios), Biotechnology club (BIOVANCIA), Commerce club (INSPIRO), Computer Science club (Technok), Food Technology club (Eat Right), Economics club (Econotize), English club (FEEL), Management Studies club (Smart club), Microbiology club (Microvision) and Psychology club (PSY Forum). Several International/National Seminars/Webinars, Training programmes, Internship, industrial visits and workshops have also been conducted for the students to achieve academic as well as to shape the overall development of the students. Tutorial system is well integrated into the educational system and guides the students in acquiring academic excellence by providing them individual attention and counselling. The students are continuously assessed on the basis of their academic as well as individual progress and the parents are intimated about the progress of their wards from time to time. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Collegiate Student Grievance Redressal Committee, Placement Cell, Women Development cell are functioning to kindle the latent talents of students. The Institute also initiated a step towards a greener campus by constituting a Biodiversity Garden. The students are expected to come to the college in a prescribed uniform. The college has zero tolerance towards Ragging. Under no circumstances will such hooliganism be permitted. Such students suspected or caught indulging in Ragging will be punished after due enquiries as per the rules and regulations.
