The Department of Food Technology is committed to imparting quality education and practical training in the field of food science and technology. The department aims to develop skilled professionals capable of contributing to the rapidly growing food processing and allied industries. Food Technology integrates the principles of food science, engineering, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, and quality management to ensure the production of safe, nutritious, and value-added food products. The B.Sc. Food Technology programme provides students with comprehensive knowledge in food processing, preservation, packaging, quality assurance, food safety, and product development through a curriculum that combines theoretical learning with laboratory practices, industrial visits, internships, seminars, and project work, thereby enhancing practical exposure and industry readiness.

 

 


Graduates of the programme can pursue careers in food manufacturing industries, quality assurance laboratories, research institutions, regulatory organizations, product development sectors, and higher education, while also exploring entrepreneurial opportunities in food processing and value-added food product development. The department envisions becoming a centre of excellence in Food Technology education by producing competent professionals and entrepreneurs with technical expertise, ethical values, and innovative thinking. Its mission is to provide quality education in food science and technology, develop practical and research skills, encourage entrepreneurship and innovation in food processing, create socially responsible professionals for the food industry, and strengthen industry–institution interaction with lifelong learning opportunities. The major areas of study include Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Processing Technology, Food Engineering, Food Packaging Technology, Food Preservation, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Nutrition and Food Analysis, Food Laws and Regulations, and Product Development and Entrepreneurship.
