Industrial Visit to Milma Dairy Plant, Sreekandapuram
- Sreekandapuram
- 21 Aug / 2025
An industrial visit was organized by the Department of Microbiology on 21st August 2025 to the Milma Dairy Plant, Sreekandapuram for the third-semester B.Sc. Microbiology students. A total of 38 students, accompanied by three faculty members—Mr. Nizamudheen K. M., Ms. Javatha K. N., and Ms. Prashinamol P.—participated in the program. The team departed from the college at 9:30 a.m. and reached the plant on time.
The visit enabled the students to gain first-hand exposure to the processing, packaging, and quality control practices adopted in the dairy industry. They were briefed on various stages of operation including milk collection, pasteurization, storage, and distribution.
A technical session was conducted by Mr. Jerry Matthew, Resource Person at Milma, who explained the significance of maintaining microbiological standards in food safety. He also emphasized the crucial role played by microbiologists in ensuring the quality and safety of dairy products.
As part of the program, the students visited the Milma microbiology laboratory, where they observed routine testing procedures, quality assurance techniques, and hygiene protocols followed in dairy production. The interactive session provided them with an opportunity to clarify doubts and relate their classroom knowledge to industrial applications.
The visit proved to be highly beneficial, as it enhanced the students’ practical understanding of microbiological concepts and familiarized them with the professional practices of the food and dairy industry.
